38th  SWIM  ACROSS  THE  GULF  OF  TORONEOS

The Cultural Youth Association of Nikiti «SITHON» announces the organization of the 38th Swim Across the Gulf of Toroneos from Kallithea to Nikiti of Chalkidiki on Saturday 19 of July 2008.

This marathon takes place between the two peninsulas of Chalkidiki, starting from Kallithea in Kassandra and ending at Nikiti in Sithonia, a distance of 26 km. The swimmers will have no swimming aids such as masks etc, and will be followed by motor boats equipped with radio to ensure the safety of the participants.

This race is held purely in the athletic spirit of the Olympic Games which Greece has inherited from its ancestors. For this reason, each person who manages to swim the distance and finish the race will be considered a winner and treated as one. Instead of money each winner will receive a cup and will be crowned with a wreath made of leaves of the olive tree as was done in ancient Greece.

All the participants of this race will enjoy the hospitality of the people of Nikiti for 4 days.

Anyone who is interested in taking part in this swimming marathon or would like more information should contact with Cultural Youth Association of Nikiti «SITHON» by fax or by mail till 10th of June 2008. It will follow the pick – up choice from the swimming – race committee.All swimmers will be notified till 20th of June 2008.The number of participants for the year 2008 will be 30.
