Scuba Diving in Halkidiki

Scuba-Diving

There are few things in life that can leave you spellbound – Scuba diving is one of those things.

Combine this with the clear tranquil waters of the Aegean Sea and the beautiful coastline of Kassandra you have the recipe for a truly amazing; and potentially life-changing, experience.  Triton Scuba Diving Club is a PADI  5* IDC Centre with bases in Thessaloniki and Halkidiki.  Karla is the English member of the team of instructors and has been diving in Halkidiki since 1998 and loves it!

You may not know that Children as young as 8 years old can participate in a scuba diving experience so it is something that the whole family can enjoy together. We also offer a fantastic Cave and Tunnel Snorkelling trip that is very popular with guests who often book for a second or even a third time.

We offer guided dives for those who already have a diving license or can provide training to certify as a PADI Scuba Diver right through to the Instructor ratings.

You can also have photos and video taken of your experience so you have something to show everyone back home that you did it!

Why do people scuba dive?

For some it’s the beauty of the reef and the marine life that inhabits it, for others it’s the thrill of discovery – everyone has a different reason for scuba diving, but most would agree that it’s for the sheer enjoyment of experiencing the underwater world, a world so far removed from ours that it will truly amaze you.

Why dive in Halkidiki?

The Aegean Sea is rich with life and beauty.  One of the very first things that will strike you is the crystal clear, turquoise-blue water.  There is no phytoplankton, which is possibly why the water is so clear.  The absence of plankton does not mean that nutrients are short and life is scarce, On the contrary – in the Aegean Sea you can spend much time exploring and relishing nature’s beauties.

What sort of dives are there?

We are lucky to have access to many sites with really interesting topography and sharp drop-offs so we have some lovely wall dives where we can spend time exploring nooks and crannies, overhangs and small caves.  In the shallows we have large rock formations which are home to endless amounts of sea and plant life.

What is there to see?

We have an abundance of Nudibranchs here so if you love Flabellina’s and Doris’ then this is the place for you!  We also regularly see Octopus, Morays, Groupers, Breams, Wrasse and Mullets.  It is also possible to see Tuna, Jacks, Sunfish (Mola Mola) and even Turtles.  Guests are often pleasantly surprised at the variety of things to be seen here and often mistake the many forms and colours of sponge for coral.

How much time will diving take up as I’ll be travelling with my family?
It depends on you. You can spend as little or as much time as you want. Our normal schedule takes into account that many of our visitors are travelling with their families.  Dives and courses are planned in a way that leaves you half the day free.

Who can scuba dive?

Almost anyone. Scuba divers are aged from 8 years and over and come from all walks of life. Here are some basic considerations:

  • Age
Children as young at 8 years old can start diving with programs taught in the safety of shallow water and aimed specifically at young children. From the age of 10 years old children can be certified as Junior Open Water Divers and those 15 years and older can be certified as Open Water Divers. There are no upper age limits.
  • Health
You need to be in a state of good health. This doesn’t mean you need to be super-fit, but you have to be free of any serious medical problems. You’ll answer a medical questionnaire when you sign up for a course and if you or your instructor have any concerns you will be referred to a medical doctor for assessment. You will also need to be able to swim and float or tread water.
